CPF National Communiqué regarding the Government of Canada holding consultations on linguistic duality and official languages

 

September 2007  - Canadian Parents for French Strategic Planning Committee has developed a survey to assist with future planning and is seeking the input from the members of the organization. Richard Rice, one of our CPF NB Board members received the 2007 Lieutenant-Governor's Dialogue Award.  The Lieutenant-Governor's Dialogue Award is presented to those role models who champion the principles of harmony and respect between the province's Anglophone and Francophone communities.  This is his acceptance speech.

 

The " New Vision for Public Education in New Brunswick" is a new plan for public education in New Brunswick unveiled by Premier Shawn Graham and Education Minister Kelly Lamrock:. The government's plan for French second language is addressed on pages 24 and 25

We are pleased to announce that CPF NB will be offering the possibility of financial assistance under a new INNOVATIONS FUND for 2006/2007We have budgeted $5000 for this project, and it is our intention to provide funding to Chapters with emphasis on programs, projects, or activities that are creative and innovative, encourage students to learn French and stay in French, and/or that promote bilingualism in NB.

Canadian Parents for French is looking for camp counselors who are University Students for our
residential French Immersion camp starting on May 18th to June 22nd. Hours are Monday to Friday and
salary will be $325 per week.

 

Data from PISA showed that in every province, except Manitoba, students enrolled in French-immersion programs outperformed their counterparts in non-immersion programs in reading performance.

 

Education Minister Madeleine Dubé on April 16, 2004 announced a revamping of the provincial evaluation program, designed to gauge how individual students and the school system as a whole are succeeding in meeting higher achievement goals set out in the Quality Learning Agenda.

 

Canadian Parents for French New Brunswick is now accepting advertising in our Spring issue of the Provincial Newsletter. Our newsletter is mailed to over 1,600 members and 23 schools and organizations in New Brunswick. Members are mostly parents or educators who have children in French programs in the Anglophone school system and are eager to have access to French education material and other French-language opportunities for their children.

 

Chapters and Board Members are invited to nominate a person whom they feel has helped CPF “above and beyond” by volunteering or being supportive of CPF’s activities and programs..

Report Card 2003 Report Card is an annual review of student achievement in New Brunswick's anglophone school districts as measured by results on provincial examinations/assessments. The data contained in this document summarize and describe what students at various grade levels know and are able to do.

 

On March 12, 2003, Prime Minister Jean Chrétien and Ministers Stéphane Dion and Lucienne Robillard released the Action Plan for Official Languages.

 

A report commissioned by The Atlantic Provinces Education Foundation (APEF) entitled "Report of Current Research on the Effects of Second Language Learning on First Language Literacy Skills" may be accessed here.

 

$5000 Supplement for Graduate Students available. The Canadian Language and Literacy Research Network invites graduate students to apply for a scholarship supplement to advance their training in multidisciplinary research.

 

Report Card 2002 contains information on provincial exams and assessments conducted during the 2001-2002 school year while Résultats des examens provinciaux has information from provincial high school exams written in January and June of 2002 and Grade 4 and 8 assessments conducted in September 2002.

 

Update: CPF New Brunswick met with the Minister of Education on January 28th and with the Premier on February 17th to discuss our concerns about the District 2 DEC's request for a variance to Policy 309.
