French Immersion and Core French students compete for provincial title!
 

The 16th annual Concours d’art oratoire, the provincial French public speaking competition for students studying French as a second language in Core French or French Immersion went off with a bang on April 20th at Bathurst Regional High School.  The competition is organized by Canadian Parents for French New Brunswick to provide students in French second language programs an opportunity to use their second language outside the classroom environment.

This year one hundred and six students from eight of the nine provincial anglophone school districts participated in the Concours.  Students in grades six to twelve from District 2, Moncton; District 6, Rothesay; District 8, Saint John; District 10, St. Stephen; District 14, Woodstock; District 15, Dalhousie; District 16, Miramichi; and District 18, Fredericton participated in the competition.  All students received participation certificates and “Proud of Two Languages” t-shirts.  First place winners received trophies and plaques from CPF NB and cash prizes from NB Tel Aliant.  Second place winners received plaques from CPF NB and cash prizes from Smurf-fit Stone and third place winners received plaques from CPF NB and cash prizes from Noranda Brunswick Mining.  The first, second and third place winners of the 13 French second language categories are:

Grade 6 Early French Immersion:
1st – Rachael Bell, District 16, Harkins Middle School 
2nd – Erin MacDougall, District 18, Nashwaaksis Middle School
3rd – Kyle Wiggins, District 10, St. Stephen Middle School
 

Grade 7 Early French Immersion:

Sephora Tang won 2nd place in the Grade 12 French immersion category.
