TO: DISTRICT FRENCH SECOND LANGUAGE SUPERVISORS FROM: Jane Keith
RE: CONCOURS D’ART ORATOIRE 2001 Sponsored by Canadian Parents for French, New Brunswick Branch On behalf of the Board of Directors of Canadian Parents for French, New Brunswick Branch, I would like to invite you to participate in another Concours d’art oratoire. We are looking forward to working with you once again this year. We realize that as FSL Supervisors you have many demands on your time, but we do hope that we can work together to ensure that as many students as possible from your District participate in this year’s Concours and that we can make it a positive, fun learning experience for the students. Preparations for the 2001 Concours d’art oratoire are presently underway. The Provincial Finals will be held in District 2, at Riverview Middle School, 45 Bevere Road, Riverview NB, on Saturday, April 21st, 2001. It will be the responsibility of the Districts and parents to provide transportation for the students participating in the Provincial Finals. Please note that students may enter the competition in the following categories: Early French Immersion Grades 6, 7 and 8
The decision on how to organize your District Finals competition, i.e., district versus school area is entirely up to you. There will be a $10 registration fee for the Provincial Concours participants. The district may pay this in advance or at the registration desk on the morning of April 21st. We have decided, again, to hold the competition on Saturday in order to have more classrooms available to use for speeches as well as give parents the opportunity to attend and hear their child’s speech. Registration will begin at Riverview Middle School at 11:30 a.m., opening ceremony to begin at 12:30 p.m. and the speeches will commence at 1:00 p.m., with closing ceremony to be held at 3:30 p.m. We are depending on you and your FSL teachers to encourage students to participate, especially those in Grade 12 who may have already taken their French requirement(s) during the fall semester. We will be awarding a cash prize to the first place winners.
