A PROGRAM FOR 15 - 17 YEAR OLDS
ENCOUNTERS WITH CANADA (EWC)
CANADIAN PARENTS FOR FRENCH, NEW BRUNSWICK BRANCH
WHAT? Canadian Parents for French (CPF) is pleased to announce a program for students who are 15-17 years of age. Encounters with Canada (EWC) are 7 day seminars which take place during the school year.
WHERE? Held at the Terry Fox Centre in Ottawa.
WHEN? EWC has signed an agreement with Canadian Parents for French to provide the week of April 30, 2000- May 6, 2000: Canadian Experience program week.
WHO? For twelve students in New Brunswick (125 students from across Canada)
WHY? The Canadian Experience program week creates an awareness of Canadian accomplishments. Encounters with Canada arranges visits to the National Art Gallery, the War Museum, Museum of Civilization and Man, Parliament, the Senate and the House of Commons and tours of Ottawa-Hull. The Royal Canadian Legion supports the program and provides a group of veterans of the Second World War and the Korean Conflict to the program to share their experiences first hand. Students will make new friendships; gain an enhanced sense of pride in Canada and of what it means to be a Canadian today.
HOW?
Participants must :
Following is the criteria for the Encounters with Canada/CPF Program:
  • be 15-17 years of age at the time of the program (April 30th/00)
  • be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant
  • be enrolled in a Canadian high school or secondary institution
  • submit the Preliminary Application and $25.00 administration fee by December 15/99. Parents/guardians will receive a complimentary one year membership or membership renewal upon receipt of the Preliminary Application.
  • submit the EWC fee of $575.00 by February 24/00 (if their essay is judged among the top twelve).

Fees: The EWC fee of $575.00 includes return transportation to Ottawa by train, 6 nights stay in dormitory style accomodation, 3 meals a day and evening snack, local transportation in Ottawa, access to expert speakers and resource people, chaperones 24 hours a day (the chaperones are high school teachers on loan from their Departments of Education) and bilingual staff at the Terry Fox Centre.

Students are encouraged to seek sponsorship money from their local legion branches, corporate donors such as banks and insurance companies, parents' employers, service clubs, stores, their student council, etc.
